Wednesday and Sunday
For those who want a sneak preview:
The Wednesday study group began last week to read the New Testament letter to the Hebrews. In our discussion we learned that the author of this biblical book is unknown, but might be Paul, Peter, Apollos, Priscilla, or some other writer. We were reminded that the Hebrews are the same as the Jews, descendants of Abraham, inheritors of the scriptures and traditions we call the Old Testament; and that this book is not so much a letter as it is a transcript of a sermon, written down and sent to various places so it could be preached all over again. In Hebrews 1 [+/-] we saw numerous quotations, mostly from the Psalms, supporting the assertion that Christ has a superior (better) place and role than the angels. This week we’ll continue in Hebrews 2 [+/-].
On Sunday, September 10, the scripture text will be James 2:1-17 [+/-] on the relationship between faith and deeds. What’s the difference between a believer and a worker in the kingdom of God?
